Sungai Congkak Recreational Forest,

Project Title:

Art for Nature: Preserving Sungai Congkak

through Creative Expression

​

Key Activities:

Apply arts into river care awareness initiatives: 

  • Organise art and awareness workshop.

  • Build a sculpture using natural and recyclable materials found in Sungai Congkak.

  • Organise guided field trip to Sungai Congkak.

  • Host public exhibition displaying children’s artwork.

Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Monash University Malaysia Student Chapter

Location:

Sungai Lembing Town, Pahang

Project Title:

Eco-Buffers: Building Natural Defences

Against Flooding in Sungai Lembing Town.

​

Key Activities:

  • Focus on enhancing buffer zone in Sungai Kenau through bamboo tree planting and empower local community on monitoring and maintenance. 

  • Establish eco-trail near the buffer zones with educational signages for schools and institutions.

Key Activities:

A community-based initiative focusing on flood preparedness:

  • Monitor Sungai Kinta on monthly basis particularly on water level and pollution.

  • River clean-up

Location:

Ibai River in Kuala Terengganu,

Terengganu

Project Title:

Ripples of Change: Inspiring Youth

to Protect Ibai River.

​

Key Activities:

Focus on plastic wastes found in river:

  • Organise clean-up activity along Ibai River with youth and local groups. 

  • Empower youth on water quality testing. 

  • Develop pollution mapping, particularly plastics found in Ibai River.

  • Organise practical workshops on plastic wastes and recycling.

Jelajah Sungai Johor: Pentingnya Menjaga Sungai

Key Activities:

  • Organise Sungai Johor exploration with students for awareness and capacity.

  • Water quality testing and rubbish profiling.

  • Produce educational video on river care awareness.

  • Develop and organise river care awareness with local communities.

Sayangilah Sungai Kita

(Love Our Rivers)

Key Activities:

Organise community-based river care initiatives:

  • River clean-up

  • Create habitat for river aquatics

  • Plant local tree species along the riverbank

  • Monitor river cleanliness

Location:

Sungai Penchala in Petaling Jaya, Selangor

Project Title:

Little Avengers: Tale of a River Protector

​

Key Output:

  • Developed and disseminated a river care e-book entitled Little Avengers to raise awareness among children. 

  • Engaged school children in river care awareness activities i.e. art competition. 

  • More than 150 people has downloaded the e-book at the time of Final Report writing. 
     

National River Care Fund (NRCF) is an initiative by the Global Environment Centre (GEC),

overseen by the Advisory Committee and operated by the NRCF Secretariat from GEC.
